This healthy homemade granola recipe is quick and easy to make. It doesn’t skimp on flavor and it’s easy on your pocketbook as well!
Based on my other recipes I’m sure that you can tell that I love quick and easy meal and snack ideas. This granola recipe is no exception.
We were talking the other morning about healthy things that my boyfriend can eat. He needs to eat about twice the number of calories that I do to maintain his muscle mass. That means whatever I’m eating he needs double my portion or twice the meals.
We are constantly needing to come up with things that he wants to eat that are healthy AND tasty.
Granola is something that I used to make years ago. It’s super quick and easy and super cost-effective to make.
Granola Ingredients
This recipe contains ingredients that I routinely have in my pantry and I bet you do as well.
- Old-Fashioned Oats – Or rolled oats. Make sure you don’t use quick oats.
- Cinnamon – To flavor the granola
- Raw Honey – This is the “glue” for the granola. It’s what makes the clusters
- Almonds – Almonds add a wonderful flavor to the granola
- Milled Flaxseed – This adds a nice dimension of flavor to the granola and it adds nutrients
- Sea Salt – Brings out the flavor
How to Make this Healthy Granola Recipe
First, preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
Next, mix all your dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Then mix in the honey or maple syrup in a little at a time and stir well until the entire mixture is coated. If you use honey it will be a little tricky to get it all moistened but just keep stirring until it’s all combined.
Spray a roasting pan, glass pan or deep cookie sheet with cooking spray
Layout the granola in a single layer
Bake for 15 minutes
Stir the granola then bake for an additional 10-12 more minutes or until golden brown
Remove from the oven and let cool
The granola will crisp up as it cools.

To make this recipe gluten-free simply use gluten-free oats
To make it vegan use maple syrup in lieu of honey
For a lower sugar healthier option sub the honey/maple syrup for monk fruit syrup
If you don’t like almonds sub them out for your nut of choice. I’ve made this with pecans, walnuts and even peanuts.
Stir in your favorite dried fruit after it cools. Try raisins, cranberries or blueberries!

Granola Recipe Variations
My recipe isn’t gluten-free or vegan but with a quick substitution or two, it can be.
To make this recipe gluten-free simply use gluten-free oats
To make it vegan use maple syrup in place of honey
For a lower sugar healthier option sub the honey/maple syrup for this monk fruit syrup.
If you don’t like almonds sub them out for your nut of choice. I’ve made this with pecans, walnuts and even peanuts.
Stir in your favorite dried fruit after it cools. Try raisins, cranberries or blueberries!
Cost Comparison
This granola is WAY more cost-effective than anything you can buy in the store. And it has the added benefit of having healthy whole ingredients. I love that I know exactly what goes into this recipe and I know it’s all good for me.
The average 11-12 oz bag of granola in stores costs $3.50-$5 depending on the brand. This granola is much more cost-effective.
I shop at Aldi so here are the prices based on that at the time of writing this post.
Old-fashioned Oats – $2.65 for a 42 oz container
Cost for 3 cups of oats $0.53
Cinnamon $2.15
Cost for 1 tsp of cinnamon $0.12
Sliced Almonds $3.19
Cost for ¼ cup $0.53
Milled Flaxseed $$1.99
Cost for ¼ cup $0.20
Raw Honey $4.85
Cost for ½ cup $1.21
(I didn’t add the cost of the salt since it’s just a pinch and costs less than a penny)
Total Cost of homemade granola $2.59. That’s at LEAST $1 cheaper than the store brand. And I can assure you that my version is much healthier. And not to mention that all of the ingredients are PRONOUNCABLE!
